B. Photosynthesis occurs in 2 parts
1. Light Reaction Light (energy) absorbed by chlorophyll is used to split H2O into H and O atoms ATP is made Oxygen is a “waste product” Occurs in the thylakoids
2. Dark Reaction (Calvin Cycle) Using ATP, H atoms from part 1 combine with CO2 to make glucose (C6H12O6). Occurs in the stroma
