Disaster recovery

What it is? Disaster recovery is the process, policies and procedures that are related to preparing for recovery or continuation of technology infrastructure which are vital to an organization after a natural or human- induced disaster. Disaster recovery focuses on the IT or technology systems that support business functions as opposed to business continuity, which involves planning for keeping all aspects of a business functioning in the midst of disruptive events.

Where is it used Disaster recovery is used in places such as organizations, big businesses and schools.

Why? It is designed to ensure the continuation of vital business processes in the event that a disaster occurs. provide an effective solution that can be used to recover all vital business processes within the required time frame using vital records that are stored off-site.

benefits? Saves the vital business processes. Disaster recovery plans ensure that legislation and compliance issues  Prevent financial loss A disaster recovery programme can prevent loss of credibility and goodwill. A disaster recovery programme will prevent the loss of important operational information.

Disadvantages It can cost a lot of money to develop and implement. It is not worth doing if it is not done properly It can cost more money to keep it up to date

Example If there was a disaster such as earthquake, it might cause there to be damage to the organization, this could cause damage such as data lose and downtime. With disaster recovery it will provide procedures to handle emergency situations, and back-up of all there data
