Life in Flores In the Twentieth Century

W hat was home life like in Flores seventy or forty years ago? W ere houses big? A nd their gardens? W hat kind of clothes did women and men wear? A nd the children? H ow did they wear their hair? W hat did people do in their free time?

I n those days, having a photograph taken was not an everyday activity. P eople usually took photos on special occasions, and they often wore their best clothes.

W omen wore long dresses and skirts, tights and high-heeled shoes. T hey sometimes wore gloves and hats. T hey carried small, elegant handbags.

G irls usually wore short elegant dresses or skirts, socks and shoes. T hey wore ribbons and bows in their hair.

A lot of people lived in houses. B uildings and flats were not as usual as today. h ouses were usually large with big gardens full of grass, flowers, plants and even trees. P eople spent a lot of time there.

s ome houses had patios with tiles with nice designs. A dults usually sat and talked there while children played. i n this photo you can see a small girl playing with a toy baby.

F amilies usually got together on S undays. T hey had lunch and talked. T he children played, usually in the big gardens or in the corridors. G irls usually played quiet games. i n this photo you can see a group of girls in a garden swing made of wood.

B oys usually played quite rough games. T hey enjoyed football and played for hours and hours. B oys wore shorts and T-shirts or shirts with a tie. T hey always wore their hair short.

B oth girls and boys enjoyed riding bicycles and tricycles. T ricycles were bigger than the ones we have today. O lder children played with them.

P eople also spent some of their free time in their living-rooms. T hey liked to listen to music. T hey listened to records in record players. t hey didn't have CDs in those days.
