The Elements of Design The Elements are the building blocks of design. Each work of art can be represented by one or more element. They are like ingredients in a recipe.

The Principles of Design The Principles of design are how you use the Elements, how they are put together. There can be one or more Principles of design in each work of art. The Principles are like a recipe. They tell you what to do with the ingredients.
