Periodic table periodic table song

Periodic Table The periodic table is a way of organising the elements into similar groups A number of scientists tried to find a pattern Dimitri Mendeleev was a Russian scientist in the 19th century who devised a table of elements and his method of organising the elements became accepted. He didn’t get everything right but he left gaps for elements that hadn’t ben discovered and his predictions were correct

How can we tell if an element is a metal?

Prep Questions 2,3,4 and 5 on the sheet

Metals Learning Objectives: To know the properties of metals To be able to carry out an investigation to identify metals

Properties of metals Most metals are shiny Most metals are solid with a high melting point Metals are good conductors of heat and electricity Some metals are magnetic

Metal investigation In pairs look at the samples on the side benches and record your results Sample Shiny? Solid? Magnetic? Electrical conductor? A B C D E

Evaluation of investigation Which samples do you think are metals based on your observations? Do you have enough information? What else would you like to know?
