IT’S OVER!!

The war is over….. NOW WHAT??? What happens to all the defense plants? What about all the soldiers? What happens to all the women who went to work? What about the economy?

Business Businesses converted from producing war materials…. To producing consumer goods

Soldiers Truman desegregated the armed forces in 1948. The G.I. Bill of Rights gave returning soldiers benefits they could use for housing, school or even to start a business.

Women The workforce shifted back to men and most women returned home to family responsibilities.

Economy Rationing was over and Americans were ready to SPEND Many Americans started to purchase goods on credit

Labor Unions Labor unions merged and became more powerful. Workers got new benefits and higher salaries.

After WWII there was economic prosperity in the United States and technology was booming! This continued on for several years and the next generation of women re-entered the workforce in great numbers. One More Thing…..
