WCIT-12 Key Achievements The ITRs include provisions for: improving transparency in mobile roaming charges improving energy efficiency and cutting e-waste ensuring the security and robustness of international telecommunication networks combating unsolicited bulk electronic communications (spam) preventing misuse of numbering resources bringing the benefit of ICTs to the 650 million people living with some kind of disability improving broadband connectivity to landlocked developing countries and small island states; improving access to emergency services.

Challenges GSS addressed two particular challenges resulting from the convergence and the integration of ICT into traditional industries: With convergence, the traditional demarcation between the work of different standards bodies is becoming blurred, and ICT standardization is no longer limited to the confines of the ICT industry but must now work with other industry sectors to develop new global standards for new services.

Next Steps / Actions WTSA-12 established a new Review Committee as a forum with the time to discuss issues seriously and come up with suggestions on how ITU-T, as the only truly global ICT standards body, can best ensure that it remains the place to come to develop international standards.

Many others are expected to join over the coming months.
