Activities That People Like To Do (Don’t write notes yet) So tell me WHS students… Do you like to act and play instruments? Do you like to sing or (to) draw? Do you like to dance and (to) write? You are going to learn how to express activities that people like to do.

GUSTAR (to like/be pleasing) Start writing notes, please.

INFINITIVES People like to do things: to run, to play, to rest, to listen to music, etc. The recurring word from above is “to…” “to”+ the verb = the infinitive form of verb The infinitive form of a verb is the base form, the foundation In Spanish, the infinitive forms are the endings “-ar, -er, -ir”

GUSTAR (to like/be pleased) We’ve already learned some “gustar” expressions, and have been using them for the last weeks. Me gusta… No me gusta… Te gusta… ¿Te gusta…” ¿Qué te gusta hacer?

In Spanish, the infinitive forms are the endings “-ar, -er, -ir” Spanish examples: correr, montar, mirar, etc. To say that people like to do activities, use the following formula: + “gusta” + activity (infinitive) me nos te os le les

Example: Me gusta trabajar. Figurative: I like to work. Translation: + it is pleasing + to verb (infinitive) Example: Me gusta trabajar. Figurative: I like to work. Literal: To me it is pleasing to work. To me To us To you To y’all To you (formal) To him To her To y’all (formal) To them

Sample Sentences: Do you like to act and play instruments? ¿Te gusta actuar y tocar instrumentos? Do you like to sing or (to) draw? ¿Te gusta cantar o dibujar? Do you like to dance and (to) write? ¿Te gusta bailar y escribir?

She likes to read and study. Le gusta leer y estudiar. We like to take walks. Nos gusta pasear. They like to drink juice. Les gusta beber jugo. You like to eat. (4 ways) Te gusta comer. Os gusta comer. (A Ud.) Le gusta comer. (A Uds.) Les gusta comer.

In order to Clarify or Emphasize Add the word “a” then the person’s name or an IO pronoun (mí, ti, nosotras, etc) A María le gusta practicar deportes. A ella le gusta practicar deportes. A mí me gusta practicar deportes.

Pronouns that follow “a” are NOT subject pronouns, rather… a mí a nosotros(as) a ti a vosotros(as) a Ud. a él a ella a Uds. a ellos a ellas

the final “formula” is …. a mí a nosotros(as) a ti a vosotros(as) a Ud. a él a ella a Uds. a ellos a ellas me nos te os le les + gusta + infinitive +
