Warm-up September 18, 2017 Solve using the Order of Operations PE(MD)(AS): 45 + 36 * 4 – 6 * 14 = (4 * 5) + (6 * 9) ÷ 2 = 4.8 ÷ 2 * 12 = SHOW ALL YOUR WORK C

Warm-up 105 47 28.8

Evaluate Substitute the rational number they give you for the corresponding variable in the expression. 5A + B A = 4 and B = 8 So 5 (4) + 8 = 20 + 8 = 28 Turn to page 166 in your Textbook.

Classwork Chapter 3, Lesson 1 Page 167, problems 1 – 12 Page 168, problems 18 and 19

Commutative Property The sum of two numbers is the same no matter which order is used to add them. a + b = b + a 3 + 7 = 7 + 3 Also applies to multiplication. A * B = B * A

Associative Property The sum of three numbers is the same whether you group the first two numbers or the second two numbers. (a + b) + c = a + (b + c) (3 + 7) + 5 = 3 + (7 + 5) Also applies to multiplication. (3 * 7) * 5 = 3 * (7 * 5)

Distributive Property To multiply a number by a sum of two terms, you can multiply that number by each term and add the two products. a(b + c) = ab + ac 3(7 + 5) = 3*7 + 3*5

Distributive Property 5 ( 6 + M ) 9) -2 ( -6 + S ) -5 ( 6 + M ) 10) -5 ( -5 + W ) 3 ( 5 + T ) 8 ( 4 – Y ) -8 (4 – B ) 2 ( 3 + 2K) 2 ( -3 + 2R ) - 2( 6 + F )
