What do you think of when you see these images?

Does anybody know what love is? Has anybody ever seen love before, what does it look like? Can you think of a symbol to REPRESENT love?

All of these pictures are ‘symbols’ All of these pictures are ‘symbols’. Symbols are pictures or objects that make you think of something else. They REPRESENT something.

This symbol is often used to represent love. Symbols are useful because they sometimes remind us of things, like love, that we can’t see.

Here are some symbols that are important to Christians.

The Cross Jesus died on the cross The Cross Jesus died on the cross. The cross reminds Christians that God loved them so much that he sent them his only son.

The Dove The dove is a symbol for the Holy Spirit (the spirit of God) The Dove The dove is a symbol for the Holy Spirit (the spirit of God). In the bible a dove returned to Noah with an olive branch in it’s beak, when Christians see the symbol of the dove they are reminded of hope because the dove gave hope to Noah during the flood.

In the Greek language the words Jesus Christ, God’s son, Saviour start with the letters I,C,H,T,H,U,S. When you put the letters together they spell ICHTHUS which means fish. Christians sometimes wear the fish symbol on their clothes or belongings to let other Christians know that they believe in God too.

The church spire points to the sky to remind Christians of heaven.

Candles remind Christians that Jesus is the light of the world.

Can you think of a word that describes your class Can you think of a word that describes your class. Maybe you think that your class is noisy or funny or kind or fun!
