3 What is God like? Nobody alive today has ever seen God but millions of people believe in God. Some people find it helpful to form an image of God in their minds. Why do you think it helps people to have a picture of God in their minds? (what might it help you to do?) Do you think it matters if different people have different ideas about what God is like?

6 The Trinity Know what is meant by "the Trinity“
To understand why Christians believe in the Trinity

7 What is God like? The bible is the source of most of Christian people’s knowledge about God. The bible never really tells us what he looks like at all but it does give us clues about what he is like. Christians believe a few very important things about God which almost all Christians agree on. God made the universe God made us and loves us God is perfect (perfectly good, perfectly powerful and knows everything) God will forgive us if we sin and will let us live in heaven with him for ever. What beliefs about God do most Christians agree on?

8 What is God like? The early church had a problem after Jesus had ascended to heaven. The members were confused about some of the passages in the bible. Can you spot the problem? "I am the LORD, and there is no other” There is no God but one. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit." Jesus said: "I and the Father are one." (John 10:30)

9 The problem! The 3 statements below conflict There is only one God
The bible says Jesus is the Son of God The bible says the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God.

10 How Christians solve the problem
There is only one God but he is made up of three parts. Father- The creator God who is in heaven Son – Jesus- God on earth Holy Spirit- God in us

11 Can you guess why the following 3 slides are good analogies for the Trinity?

15 The Trinity Do most Christians believe in one God or many?
Who are the three parts of the Trinity? Give 1 Christian analogy for the Trinity. Copy and complete the following: believe that God the Father is fully and completely God, God the is fully and completely and God the Holy is completely and fully So God is made up of parts but each part is all of Him. What might a Christian say if you said the Trinity was impossible? See if you can think of your own analogy for the Trinity.
