Pre-Service Teacher Goal Setting Agreement University of Cincinnati Teacher Preparation Programs

What is it? The Pre-Service Teacher Goal Setting Agreement (PSTGSA) is the final reflection and goal setting document established at the end of certain field experiences by the teacher candidate, mentor teacher, and university supervisor. The purpose of this document is to set professional goals for the teacher candidate to use in the Ohio Resident Educator License when he/she begins the entry year of teaching or certain field experiences. The teacher candidate will work on meeting these goals with a mentor teacher assigned to work with him/her in the district where the candidate is hired. The teacher candidate should retain the original version of the PSTGSA and provide a copy to his/her entry year mentor teacher and university supervisor. Ohio Resident Educator Program.

Our purpose: Serves as a final reflection and goal setting tool for teacher candidate as they complete certain field experiences. Provides teacher candidate with comprehensive feedback from both his/her mentor teacher and university supervisor in a licensure program field experience. Teacher candidate must reflect on personal and professional growth during certain field experiences, and make reflective decisions on areas for growth and professional development in his/her entry year of teaching. Teacher candidate will look back at weekly reflections and CALs to determine professional goals. This brings the reflective process full circle and allows for holistic goal setting for candidates as they prepare for their careers. Requires a collaborative support and feedback process for teacher candidate.

How meetings using the PSTGSA work: Our programs at UC utilize the PSTGSA differently. Some programs require that the UC teacher candidate and mentor draft a copy of the PSTGSA prior to a meeting with the university supervisor. When the supervisor visits, the teacher candidate leads the PSTGSA meeting in the last week of the field experience and the supervisor facilitates the conversation. The university supervisor may suggest additional goals be added to the document. Goals/steps to be taken by the mentor teacher in support of the candidate should represent those steps to be taken by the mentor teacher in the entry year of teaching or next field experience mentor. The electronic version of the PSTGSA can be found on this web site:
