Presentation transcript:

Mitosis

Interphase Cell Growth Stage G1 S G2 90% of all cells are in this phase Nucleus is bound by the nuclear envelope Chromosomes are duplicated, still in the form of chromatin

Prophase 1st “true” stage of mitosis Chromatin condenses into chromatids Nuclear envelope begins to disappear Spindles begin to form

Metaphase Chromosomes line up along the equator of the cell Nuclear membranes is completely dissolved Spindle fibers extend and connect to chromosomes

Anaphase Sister chromatids are pulled apart by spindle fibers toward the poles

Telophase Spindle fibers disappear Nuclear envelope begins to develop again Chromosomes begin to uncoil Cytoplasm may start to divide

Cytokinesis Division of cell’s cytoplasm Vesicles create a growing plate that divides the parent cell Final stage of mitosis
