The circulatory system is the body system that transports Nutrients, OXYGEN & CELLULAR WASTE throughout the body.
The heart.
The Circulatory System. Function  Consists of the heart and blood vessels  Carries oxygen and nutrients to the body’s cells and remove carbon dioxide.

OUT-Explain how you can help prevent Cardio Vascular Disease! IN- Your ______ ______ depend on the blood vessels to bring nutrients and remove wastes. OUT-Explain how you can help prevent Cardio Vascular Disease!

Big Idea-Why it’s Important? Circulatory System Big Idea-Why it’s Important? Your circulatory system provides each cell in your body with a continuous supply of oxygen and nutrients and takes away carbon dioxides and other wastes. DID YOU KNOW-Every cell is within 0.10 to 0.15 mm from a capillary.

The Heart Made of cardiac muscle tissue Heart has 4 chambers-to keep the oxygen-rich blood from mixing with oxygen-poor blood. 2 upper- left & right atriums 2 lower- left & right Ventricles

Pumped by Heart Pulmonary Systemic circulation circulation Oxygen provided to cells Wastes removed from cells Pulmonary circulation Wastes removed in lungs From heart to lungs and back to heart Oxygen added From heart to body and back to heart

Artery Vein Capillary Blood Vessels Blood vessel that carries blood away from the heart (to the capillaries)

Artery Vein Capillary Blood Vessels Blood vessel that carries blood away from the heart (to the capillaries) Blood vessel that carries blood back to the heart (from the capillaries)

Artery Vein Capillary Blood Vessels Blood vessel that carries blood away from the heart (to the capillaries) Blood vessel that carries blood back to the heart (from the capillaries) Microscopic blood vessels that connects arteries and veins Nutrients, oxygen, wastes and CO2 diffuse w/cells

Summarize the exchange that occurs between a systemic capillary and the tissue cells it serves.

Summarize the exchange that occurs between a systemic capillary and the tissue cells it serves. The blood flowing through the capillaries delivers nutrients and oxygen to the tissue cells. These are exchanged for carbon dioxide and wastes which are removed from the tissue cells.

How to prevent Cardiovascular Disease Healthful diet: Low in salt Low in sugar Low in cholesterol Low in saturated fats Not being overweight Exercise Helps to prevent tension Relieves stress Helps in controlling cholesterol, tones muscles, and helps lover blood pressure Regular checkups

What is blood pressure 120/80 ? Diastolic Systolic Blood pressure is the force of blood on the walls of vessels. First number measures when ventricles contract and blood is pushed out of the heart. Second number measures pressure when ventricles fill with blood again.

Blood-19.2 Reading List the four functions of Blood Blood is a tissue made of …(list the 4 parts) How & why does blood clotting occur? Describe 2 diseases of blood. Problem-solving activity- Will there be enough blood donors? FYI-People with Rh- blood cannot receive a transfusion from an Rh+ donor. How many possible donors? Which blood type would be most affected?

The lymphatic system helps support you from infections and diseases. Describe functions of the lymphatic system Identify where lymph comes from Explain how lymph organs help fight infections
