This lesson explains the National Youth Physical Fitness Program and the five basic exercises that make up the test.

Lesson Objectives Demonstrate over time, improved abdominal muscle strength by increasing the number of repetitions of sit-ups completed within a two-minute time period. Demonstrate over time, improved upper body strength by increasing the number of repetitions of push-ups completed within a two minute time period.

Lesson Objectives Demonstrate over time, improved upper body strength by increasing the number of repetitions of pull-ups completed.

Warm Up Question How confident are you in your ability to perform the Youth Physical Fitness test? Extremely – I believe I could be fully successful right now. Introduction Students are tested in five basic exercises and are awarded scores that indicate their general physical fitness. The YPF program provides young people with realistic challenges. YPF program also inspires a lifelong respect for a healthy body in youth.

Sit-Ups Sit-ups should be performed on mats, such as those for tumbling. For the test, you have a time limit of two minutes to perform as many sit- ups as you can.

Push-Ups When done correctly, push-ups develop __________ strength. upper body

Push-Ups There are three positions in which you can perform push-ups. For the test, you have a time limit of two minutes to perform the push-ups.

Pull-Ups Pull-ups also develop your upper body strength. To perform pull-ups, you will need a bar approximately 1 ½” outside diameter. There is no time limit for this part of the test.

Standing Long Jump This exercise should be performed on any surface where you can jump into a soft area. For the test, you must complete your three jumps in a time limit of three minutes. Only the best of three jumps will be recorded for scoring purposes. Not sure if we should bold and underline the rest of the text…..

Shuttle Run The shuttle run is 300 yards in length. Placing two pylons 60 yards apart sets up a course. You must run the 60-yard distance five times, making a complete turn around each marker. Your total elapsed time is recorded. Not sure if we should bold and underline the rest of the text…..

How to Earn a Certificate of Athletic Accomplishment Certificates are awarded yearly. Students must be awarded composite score of 250 points or more to be considered eligible to receive a certificate. Certificates are not awarded according to age or grade level.
