2 This lesson introduces you to cadet records – the importance of cadet records, what cadet records are, their purposes within MCJROTC, information normally found in cadet records, and how they are maintained.

7 Introduction Did you know that if you are a member of any organization, whether it is work, school, or service, there is some kind of record maintained on you within that organization? Therefore, if there is a need for information to be kept on you, a record will be established and maintained. MCJROTC is no different. Example:

8 What Are Cadet Records? Webster’s dictionary defines a record as, “a collection of related items of information treated as a unit.” Therefore, a cadet record is a collection of information on a cadet within an MCJROTC unit. Example:

9 The Purpose of Cadet Records
Cadet records ensure availability of required information and proper accountability of the strength and logistics of the unit. Cadet records provide input for periodic unit reports and inspections from the Marine Corps chain of command as well as the school. Example:

Records should include information available including: grade level Leadership Education level promotions awards clothing issued dates of these actions. Example:

12 Maintaining Cadet Records
Cadet records are kept on file for each year that a cadet is enrolled in the MCJROTC program. The unit must retain cadet records, normally for three years, after a cadet leaves. Cadet records also provide an SMI with information to base decisions about the cadet’s future on. Example:
