Transgender Documentaries: Becoming Me 20/20

Becoming Me What pronoun would you use to describe Jake? What challenges do you imagine Jake faces? What challenges do you imagine his family faces? If Jake were to use a public bathroom, which bathroom do you assume he would use and why?

Title IX: Title IX: Federal civil rights law that prohibits anti-discrimination on the basis of sex in federal funded education programs and activities Specifically, Title IX’s sex discrimination prohibition extended to claims of discrimination based on gender identity or failure to conform to stereotypical notions of masculinity or felinity and OCR accepts such complaints for investigation. Interpret that ^^ Read article Why did the SC governor veto the bill? How do you think meeting transgender people may have helped him see things through “their eyes”?

Brainstorm: Brainstorm a list of challenges, barriers, and discrimination that transgender people face in our society. Select one topic as a group, research the current state or federal laws related to it, and come up with reasonable ideas for combatting the barriers or discrimination. Homework: research the school/district policy related to the use of bathrooms by transgender people
