Rationale Many SUN deployments today use transceivers that support FSK. Lower data rates are a very important and needed feature and component for the SUN PHY. Provides another option to increase range and/or penetration for SUN PHYs It is convenient to change data rates without changing modulation schemes Slide 3 Ruben Salazar, Chris Calvert (Landis+Gyr) Page 3

Current Lower Data Rates in FSK SUN <month year> November 18 doc.: IEEE 802.15-<15-09-0758-00-004e> <Amy 2018> Current Lower Data Rates in FSK SUN The data rates above are defined in Table 20-6. This proposal will use the same data rates and modulation – but propose wider channels and possibly different modulation index. Slide 4 Ruben Salazar, Chris Calvert (Landis+Gyr) Page 4

Current Data Rates in FSK SUN <month year> November 18 doc.: IEEE 802.15-<15-09-0758-00-004e> <Amy 2018> Current Data Rates in FSK SUN As part of 802.15.4v – multiple channel plans were added for common ISM bands around the globe including the one shown above. Others include 866-869, 870-876, 902-907.5 & 915-928, 915-928, etc… Proposing to add optional modes 6 – 8 for these bands that define these lower data rate bands. Some current silicon has already the elements necessary to cover these. This needs further study by interested parties and the silicon vendors. Suggest this is done prior to July for discussion in San Diego. Sensitivity for the added rates would be significantly better: from current experience one can expect ~8dB improvement moving from 50kb/s to 10kb/s – thus allowing longer range options. It is easier to implement the changes of Operating modes (speed) rather than Modulation schemes. Slide 7 Ruben Salazar, Chris Calvert (Landis+Gyr) Page 7
