How did Spain strengthen its colonies in the Americas? Spain strengthened its colonies by using missionaries to promote Spanish religion and culture, presidios to enforce it authority and encomienda to gain wealth. How did France’s American colonies differ from Spain’s American Colonies? Unlike the Spanish colonies the settlements of New France reflected the beneficial relationship that developed between Native Americans and the French, who required the Indians’ cooperation to carry on the fur trade.   3.
