Course Selection Night for Incoming 6th Grade Parents Welcome To DMS!! We look forward to having you and your children with us next year.

What Courses Are Required? Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science World Language, Music Physical Education/Health, STEM, and Art

What Choices Have To Be Made? Choose a World Language: French, Latin, Spanish or Beginning Mandarin. Choose a Music: Band, Chorus, Orchestra, or General Music

Math Classes There are 2 math courses: Honors Math 6 and Math 6 Grade 5 teacher’s recommendation can be found on your child’s Aspen student portal.

Math There is no tracking Students can change levels in later years All students can progress to all higher level math courses in middle school and high school

Math Placement Review Form online now If you choose a course that is different from the recommendation, you MUST speak with your child’s teacher and complete a placement review form Forms are online on the DMS website. Placement Review forms should be filled out by April 27, 2018.

World Language Spanish French Latin Beginning Mandarin It is important that you also sign up for an Alternative language course!

What Now? Review the Program of Studies on the DMS Website Course Selection online – must use the Student’s username and password. All posts must be completed by between Friday, April 13 and Friday April 27, 2018.

Course Selection Process Your child will received the Course Selection letter to bring home in their backpack. Directions and FAQs are on the DMS website under Student Services > Guidance>Course Selection Information. (Scroll down to Grade 5) Use your Child’s login and password to access their Aspen information. Click on the MY INFO top tab and then click the REQUESTS side-tab. When you finish the course selection process make sure you click POST.

How Does The Schedule Work? We are on a 14 day rotating schedule We have 5 blocks a day We have 7 Periods of classes that rotate It’s really easy…for the kids Teachers help students until everyone is familiar with the building and the schedule
