Characters of the Old Testament ACHAN Joshua 7:19-21

The Attraction of Temptation

He was tempted by the lust of worldly goods. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. James 1:14

Joshua 7:21 When I saw among the spoils a beautiful Babylonian garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. And there they are, hidden in the earth in the midst of my tent, with the silver under it." Joshua 7:21

The Devil was at Work The things which Achan coveted wasn’t even a great amount, some are lead away to sin by very little. Sin is sin, no matter the size or the amount.

The Impossibility of Secret Sin

No Sin is Secret But if you do not do so, then take note, you have sinned against the Lord; and be sure your sin will find you out. Numbers 32:23

No Sin is Secret The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry. Psalm 34:15

God’s Judgment God’s judgment upon Achan and the punishment administered reminds us of a clear fact. a. God’s law is not negotiable. b. His Word does not change.

Lessons for us Today

God has left us lessons about His love for man and His attitude toward sin. He sees all, knows all and will not let sin go unpunished.

Sin hinders God’s people. Sin is not an aide but is a weakness to Christians.

Conclusion 1. Today, a greater battle can be lost because of sin. 2. Where there is sin there must be repentance, or we will lose the battle for our soul.
