1 Psalm 119 (2) Words about God’s Word
“The Word of God” Psalm 119 (2) Words about God’s Word

2 Psalm 119 The longest psalm – 176 verses and written in Hebrew poetry based upon the Hebrew alphabet (22 sections of 8 verses) We have examined the words used to describe His word – Law, Testimonies, Ways, Precepts, Statutes, Commandments, Judgments, Word & Truth The Theme is the Word of God Today, some selected verses

3 Certainly, we must keep His word – Matt. 7:21-23
Psalm 119:2 “Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, Who seek Him with the whole heart!” Certainly, we must keep His word – Matt. 7:21-23 It must be whole-heartedly – NOT just what is left, with divided loyalties or weak devotion Matthew 5:8, Psa. 119:3, 69 Psalm 139:1-2

4 “You have commanded us To keep Your precepts diligently.”
Psalm 119:4 “You have commanded us To keep Your precepts diligently.” Diligence means with great effort Christians are to be diligent – Colossians 3:23, 2 Peter 1:5-7, 10, Hebrews 11:6, Romans 12:11 Serving God is not easy. But with diligent effort it can be done!

5 Psalm 119:9 “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.” Society is filled with temptations. Our youth are bombarded with sensuality, conformity and other temptations Much of society attacks respect for authority, especially God! As parents, we must prepare them for this Prov. 22:6, Ephesians 6:4, Prov. 3:1, 6:20 Teach our youth to look to His word for guidance – Philippians 4:8

6 Psalm 119:11 “Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.” We must share His word – Matthew 5:14-16, Psalm 39:1-3 This text indicates His word must be deeply rooted within us. Not shallow Luke 8:11-5, Psalm 1:1-3 1 Corinthians 4:5, Hebrews 4:12 Let His word keep you from sinning.

7 Psalm 119:36-37 “Incline my heart to Your testimonies, And not to covetousness. Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, And revive me in Your way.” Incline – to turn something in a particular direction To avoid sins – 1 John 2:15-17, Matthew 5:27-28, Galatians 5:19-21, Job 31:1 God’s word inclines toward contentment, self-control, self-discipline, humility , standards with friends.

8 Psalm 119:40 “Behold, I long for Your precepts; Revive me in Your righteousness.” Longing is craving something we miss Is that our attitude toward His word? Psalm 84:1-2, 42:1-2 Psalm 119:20, 174 Matthew 5:6, are we hungering and thirsting after righteousness How much do we crave God’s word? How much do we desire assembling with our brethren?

9 Psalm 119:53 “Indignation has taken hold of me Because of the wicked, who forsake Your law.” 1 Corinthians 13:6 Sadly we are living in times of great rejection – Isa. 5:20, 1 Tim. 3:1-5, Eccl. 8:11 Are we grieved with compromise in churches? Psalm 119:115, 104, 136 Will we give up ungodly friends for Him? 2 Corinthians 6:14-17, 1 Corinthians 15:33

10 God HAS spoken! Will we listen and obey?
