Part 1: Finding the Information to Cite a Source

What information do you need to cite a Book? Author Title/Subtitle of the Book Editor (if available) Publishing City Publishing Company Copyright Year Publication Medium What information do you need to cite a Book?

Where do you find the source information for a Book? Most of the source information you need will be found on the TITLE PAGE of the book. You will find the following information on the title page: The author’s name The book’s title/subtitle The editor’s name (can also be on the copyright page) The city where the book is published The company that published the book Where do you find the source information for a Book?

You can find this piece of information on the copyright page, which is usually on the back of the title page. REMEMBER—The editor can be on the copyright page as well. Where do you find the source information for the internet? Websites are difficult to cite because there is no consistent place to find the needed information. If a website/article has an author (most websites DO NOT have an author), then the name will be on the homepage or the article page. The article title is the name of the page/link where you get your information. The website’s name is usually found on the homepage. The created/updated/copyright date is usually found on the homepage at the bottom. Where do you find the source information for the internet?

Using the MLA Citation Guide and the MLA Citation Practice Packet, cite the sources while pulling the data needed on your own. Do not forget the formatting rules (punctuation, spacing, etc.)!
