(Science Operation Division Chief) Subaru Instruments Status SUBARU Instruments Status & Prospects Hiroshi TERADA (Science Operation Division Chief) Summary MOIRCS Channel-1 Problem & Pre-imaging Suprime-Cam CCDs Upgrade Plan Open of AO188 + IRCS Decommissioning of CISCO & AO36 Hiroshi TERADA @ Subaru Telescope 2007 SUBARU Users’ Meeting : 2008/01/31 NAOJ, Mitaka

1. MOIRCS Channel-1 Problem Subaru Instruments Status 1. MOIRCS Channel-1 Problem ■ 2007 Aug. Science array (Ch.1) problem ■ 2007 Oct. Engineering array installed Engineering array: 4-Q alive, but bad region Questions to Dr. I. Tanaka. ■ ~2008 Jul. Installation target for New Science array Ring-shaped Bad region High dark, noise, latent,… Q.E. 1% Non-Linearity Readout Noise Ch.1 ~75% ~74,000e- 27.7e- Ch.2 ~82% ~110,000e- 29.5e- Hiroshi TERADA @ Subaru Telescope 2007 SUBARU Users’ Meeting : 2008/01/31 NAOJ, Mitaka

Subaru Instruments Status 1. MOIRCS Pre-imaging ■ DDT is currently very limited because of commissioning phase of 2nd generation instruments: FMOS,AO188/LGS with IRCS, HiCIAO… ■ If weather prevents scheduled pre-imaging, it is very difficult to assign it again. ⇒ We should ask all the MOS users to allow pre-imaging at the end of the night. MOIRCS: 1 hour after astronomical twilight begins FOCAS: 30min across start of astronomical twilight Sun Rise Twilight begins AG Ends Hiroshi TERADA @ Subaru Telescope 2007 SUBARU Users’ Meeting : 2008/01/31 NAOJ, Mitaka

2. Suprime-Cam CCDs Upgrade Subaru Instruments Status 2. Suprime-Cam CCDs Upgrade Final evaluation and performance confirmation on-going Readout time: 20sec Readout noise: 5e- Sensitivity@1um: ~40% Preparation done for testing with the simulator in Hilo base ■ 2008 Jun Replacement planned to start. ■ S08B~ Supposed to be available. Questions to Dr. Furusawa. Hiroshi TERADA @ Subaru Telescope 2007 SUBARU Users’ Meeting : 2008/01/31 NAOJ, Mitaka

3. Open of AO188 + IRCS Finally Open from S08B Subaru Instruments Status 3. Open of AO188 + IRCS Finally Open from S08B limited number of nights: ~10(TBD) proposals: ~5(TBD) 23” x 23” 20mas camera JHK JKL’ Taken at Engineering First Light on Oct. 2006. Hiroshi TERADA @ Subaru Telescope 2007 SUBARU Users’ Meeting : 2008/01/31 NAOJ, Mitaka

4. Decommission of CISCO & AO36 Subaru Instruments Status 4. Decommission of CISCO & AO36 ■ CISCO (1999-2007) Backup for MOIRCS in S07A Decommissioned at the end of S07A Will be recycled at IoA, U-tokyo. ■ AO36 (2000-2008) Operational with CIAO in S08A Will be decommissioned at the end of S08A. CIAO will be still operational in S08B without AO function. Hiroshi TERADA @ Subaru Telescope 2007 SUBARU Users’ Meeting : 2008/01/31 NAOJ, Mitaka
