The Hobbit Review Questions

Why are the Bagginses respectable? Chapter 1 what do hobbits usually look like? Why are the Bagginses respectable? Define “Tookish”. Briefly identify Gandalf. What does Bilbo remember about him from his childhood? Find an example of humor when Bilbo tries to have a conversation WITH Gandalf.

What is the importance of the town of Dale? Chapter 1 Why does Gandalf want a burglar rather than a hero or warrior to accompany the dwarves? Identify smaug and list the general characteristics most dragons have in common. What is the importance of the town of Dale? The story is primarily told by a third person narrator. How and when does this vary? What is Tolkien’s reason for these shifts?
