CHA-Recommended Hospital Emergency Codes Effective May 1, 2012 Hospital wide implementation

CHSB Emergency Management Department What: Adopt CHA-recommended Hospital Emergency Codes When: May 1, 2012 Who: All Hospital staff Where: All CHSB Campus buildings and all off site employees Why: To maintain consistency within CHW as well as surrounding hospitals. How: Through the Safety Summit and Safety Rep program as well as Departmental Staff Meetings

Code Gray What is now Code Green will become Code Gray Code Green currently is defined as violent or agitated person. MAB response is requested. Response and policy will remain the same. Only the name will change to ensure that CHSB is utilizing the same language as other area hospitals.

Code Gray Communications will receive the code in the same manner and will dispatch and send out the appropriate messages to the same involved people.

Code Pink Code Purple will become Code Pink Code Purple is currently defined as a missing child or infant abduction. Code Pink will become the code used for all missing or abducted children or infants.

Code Pink The response for code pink will remain the same within CHSB. We will only change the name under which the code is operated under.

Code Green Code Green will become a patient elopement. CHSB and Public Safety response will remain the same for eloped patients. Only the code will be changed.

Code Crimson To provide a process for facilitating a timely & adequate replacement of massive blood products with appropriate blood components. Applies to any patient requiring a massive transfusion within a 24-hour period interval, in which the volume of blood approaches or exceeds replacement of the recipients total blood volume

Code Crimson This may occur unexpectedly or in planned circumstances such as scheduled surgeries. Has to be initiated by a Registered Nurse.

Code Yellow Code yellow will be used for a bomb threat. Currently Code Eleven is being used. As with the other codes, CHSB response will remain the same, however, the name and title of the code will change.

Code Silver Code Silver is defined as a person with a weapon or hostage situation. Currently CHSB defines this scenario as a Triage III. The employee response will remain the same by dialing 1000 to contact the hospital operator.
