Darwin and Spencer

Seminar Questions How would you summarize the ideas of Charles Darwin in this short excerpt of his famous “Origin of Species”? How does he describe the ideas of “Natural Selection” and “Survival of the Fittest”? Darwin says, “The grounds upon which this conclusion rests will never be shaken”. Why do you think he has such certainty? Why do you think his ideas are so welcome by some and so disturbing to others? Why do his ideas remain a matter of debate 150+ years after he published them? Summarize the ideas of Herbert Spencer. To what extent do you think Darwin would support these ideas? To what extent do you think the views of Herbert Spencer are still a guiding philosophy for people in the modern world? To what extent should they be?
