What is IB? “Challenging educational programs for a worldwide community of schools. . . creating a better world.” The IB Diploma Program is a challenging two-year curriculum, primarily aimed at student aged 16-19. It leads to a qualification that is widely recognized by the world’s leading universities.
What does IB Offer? A traditional & broad liberal arts curriculum held together by three core components Concurrency of learning over 2 years Depth (3 Higher Level) & Breadth (3 Standard Level) Rigorous, continuous, criterion referenced assessment over 2 years Rigorous, continuous, criterion referenced assessment over 2 years Internal Assessment & External Assessment Knowledge and skill development necessary for academic and social success in the post-secondary setting
IB Mission The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

IB Courses Candidates for the diploma study six subjects selected from the subject groups Normally three subjects are studied at higher level (HL) representing 240 teaching hours; over 2 years The remaining three subject areas are studied at standard level (SL) representing 150 teaching hours; over 1 or 2 years Students can also take one or more of the IB courses, HL or SL, for certificate
IB Courses IB Diploma Candidates must also complete the following: Extended Essay - 4000 word research project Theory of Knowledge (TOK) - Class Creativity, action, service (CAS) - Individual These core areas are compulsory and are central to the philosophy of the Diploma Program

Pathways to the Diploma There are different pathways to earn the diploma to suit each student and their interests Suggested classes during Freshman and Sophomore years (do not have to take these classes) Select IB classes to cater to your strengths
What does IB do for me? Advantage in acceptance to select universities Most HL classes will get you some credit if you score a 4 (out of 7) or better; some schools give credit for SL classes and TOK Average Diploma student is awarded 28 credits in the UW system Some colleges will give preference in the application process to diploma students Scholarships available for diploma students only Experience of College level examinations Time Management Skills = Preparation to succeed in college
NDA IB vs Area IB Schools NDA has had a DP program since 2007 (Bay Port and GB West since 2011) NDA offers a wider variety of IB courses (18 IB Subjects) Larger Full Diploma Candidate Cohorts Strong passing rates for diploma and course candidates at NDA 84% earned full diploma over last 5 years World diploma pass rate is around 80% annually
