WMO Global Multi-Hazard Alert System CBS Management Group briefing on GMAS 9 January 2018 Panel on Tropical Cyclone - 43rd session

EC-69 Decision «… Endorses the GMAS vision in the Annex as an initial draft statement which will be further advanced through the guidance of the Executive Council Working Group on DRR (ECWG/DRR); Requests the EC WG/DRR to: (1) Further advance the GMAS concept and the development of a strategy that emphasizes the following components: (a) Focuses on the benefits to and requirements of the users, (b) Emphasizes that NMHSs are the official authoritative source and in most countries, a single voice, on weather warnings in respective cases, (c) Considers the role of RSMCs in providing guidance to Members (e.g. tropical cyclones, and climate products), (d) Considers both the meteorological and hydrological aspects, (e) Accommodates public and private capacities and use cases, (f) Takes into account other service providers such as GDACS, (g) Utilizes the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) or other industry standards to enable a robust mechanism for aggregating warnings from Members;

EC-69 Decision (2) Develop a project plan that to encompass the key deliverables: (a) A detailed plan aimed at gathering the requirements, (b) Development of a detailed proposal to be presented to EC 70, which leverages existing working mechanisms (for example, CBS Management Group Task Team on DRR, where available) in consultation with regional associations and technical commissions; …»

March, 2018- Impact based forecasting and production activities including SWFDP&FFGs Impact based decision support services activities including CISD &CIFDP March. 2018- Environmental Emergency Response Operational Activities including Marine ERAs Resource mobilization for GMAS at the internal level 4th week in March 2018 CBS Techo March, 2018- early of 2019 Coordination with other international organizations on the possible connections between GMAS platforms with other operational platforms operated by INMHEWS partners such as FAO, UNOCC, UNOCHA, IAEA, ECHO/EU, etc.. GMAS - Milestones to Congress 18 – 3/3 WHEN WHAT March, 2018 - early of 2019 Upgrading WWIS and SWIC to meet the needs of GMAS requirements 9-10 April EC WG/DRR meeting Submission for review and make recommendations of the drafts documents 1) concept note, 2) detailed plan on requirements gathering, 3) detailed proposal identifying existing projects, mechanisms and initiatives GMAS can build upon, 4) draft of a strategy and “major actions”. April, 2018 - Hazard Cataloguing and its contribution to GMAS 20-29 June, 2018 EC-70 a) Communicate the user requirements gathered so far to support the EC Decision. b) Submission for approval 1) concept note, 2) detailed proposal to gather user requirements, 3) identifying existing projects, mechanisms and initiatives GMAS can build upon, 4) draft of a strategy and “major actions”. June, 2018 - June, 2019 Consultation and collaboration with other organizations on the implementation of GFRA (Global Framework for Risk Assessment) and Target-G through IN-MHEWS and preparation for GP-2019, Geneva August 2018 - WWMIWS workshop and its contribution to GMAS Early of 2019 Publication on GMAS matters before Cg-18 / Newsletter, brochure to inform Members May 2019 2019 Global Platform and possibly the next Multi-Hazard Early Warning Conference June 2019 - Congress 18 Upon approval of EC-70, submission for approval of the Implementation Strategy and plan Side event to be organised with a GMAS demo through regional platforms Dec. 2018 D/WDS, C/MHEWS, PO/MHEWS, C/TCP and SO/TCP, Establishment of the Secretariat work team Panel on Tropical Cyclone - 43rd session
