The Electoral Process Main Idea The Constitution creates a system in which citizens elect representatives to public office. Each citizen has the responsibility to help make this system work. Citizens can affect the electoral process in many ways, but the most powerful is by voting on election day.

The Electoral Process Reading Focus How is a political campaign organized and financed? How are candidates chosen for an election? What are four factors that may influence voting and voter behavior? What is the difference between a general election and a special election? Do political campaigns serve the public good?
