What is the difference between form and shape?

Form has height, width and depth, and is three-dimensional Form has height, width and depth, and is three-dimensional. Shape only has height and width.

What printmaking technique uses a burin? Engraving. The burin produces a unique and recognizable quality of line that is characterized by its steady, deliberate appearance and clean edges.

In reference to printmaking, what is reduction printing?

If in color, separate blocks can be used for each color, or a technique called reduction printing can be used. Reduction printing is the process of using one block to print several layers of color on one print. This usually involves cutting a small amount of block away, and then printing the block many times over on different sheets before washing the block, cutting more away and printing the next color on top. This allows the previous color to show through.

What is the difference between tactile texture?and implied texture?

Tactile texture (real texture) is the way the surface of an object actually feels.  Examples of this include sandpaper, cotton balls, tree bark, etc. Implied texture is the way the surface of an object looks like it feels. The texture may look rough, fizzy, gritty, but cannot actually be felt. This type of texture is used by artists when drawing or painting.

Who was Utagawa Hiroshige?

Utagawa Hiroshige was a Japanese woodcut artist from the early 19th century best known for his landscapes and his depictions of birds and flowers. These subjects were atypical for this type of artist at that time, as most of their work focused on beautiful women, actors and the urban environment of Japan.

Tone / Value What is tone? Tone or value refers to the use of light and dark, shade and highlight, in an artwork.
