Presentation transcript:

“Through Jesus we achieve our very best” At St. Martin de Porres our aim is to create a happy, enthusiastic and loving community through which Christ’s message flourishes; we strive for the fulfilment of each person’s academic potential and the realisation of their unique God-given gifts. What can I expect at St. Martin de Porres Primary School if my child has special needs? Open and honest communication Appropriate and effective Teaching and Learning A Partnership approach We have a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) who will explain everything and make sure you understand what is happening. The SENCO at our school is Mrs Braithwaite. Where appropriate, staff will receive training so they have the knowledge and confidence to support children’s needs. We will work in partnership with you to identify the needs of your child and put in place the correct support including family support if you need this. Staff will work together to assess the level children are working at and provide differentiated activities. Sometimes we may need to ask for your permission to involve other qualified professionals to support your child. We will always try to make all the information we need to share with you clear and easy to understand. A range of resources are available to support the learning of children working at different levels. The SENCO will make sure that all necessary school staff are aware of your child’s needs and worries. The school will involve you in all decisions and listen to your views. Where necessary, resources will be available to support the learning of children who have significant social and/or communication needs. The school will try to involve your child in decisions about their learning. Mrs Braithwaite is also employed as our Interventions Manager and closely monitors the Interventions put into place for our SEN children. Together, staff will provide support for children with managing their behaviour (where necessary) and/or build up skills and confidence in dealing with social situations. We will be happy to give you contact details for organisations who can give advice and support for you and your child. If we think your child needs extra support we will always talk to you about this. St. Martin de Porres school staff strive to consistently provide good teaching for your child and give extra support where needed. We will share agreed targets and strategies to support your child at home. Your child’s progress will be reviewed regularly and you will be invited into school to discuss the outcomes and give your views. Your child will also be able to give their views. St. Martin de Porres will try to make sure that children with additional needs and their families are able to take part in school trips, performances and social events.
