The Response to Fascism 1933 USA and USSR start having meetings about what to do about: Japan Germany Spain Italy FDR Wants to remain isolated but also hates fascism Joseph Stalin Hates fascism and fears Japans navy

The Fascists Join Teams 1936 Axis Powers is created Military alliance between: Germany Italy Japan Promised to support each other if another country declared war on them. What does Europe do? NOTHING!!! FDR finally pushes UK and France to meet with Hitler!

1938 Munich Conference Countries Present: United Kingdom France Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain France Premier Edouard Daladier Germany Chancellor Adolf Hitler Italy IL Duce Benito Mussolini Goal? Get Germany and Italy to stop expanding….

Munich Conference Failure? Hitler agrees to stop expanding if the rest of the Sudetenland is given to Germany UK and France appease Germany. Appeasement = give in to demands in order to keep larger conflict in future But does it work???

Even then, America didn’t want to Join Congress has the right to declare war FDR is begging to declare war on Germany but he can’t persuade Congress Dec. 7, 1941 Out of nowhere, Japan attacks Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Destroys the U.S. Navy in Pacific Ocean

America Joins World War II…
