People need a place to live and the perfect place to call home is….well a house. Lets discover the many house styles to choose from and find one that will be your home sweet home. Put the information to come in memory as there will be a Quiz at the end.

Overhanging Second floor. Separate Corner posts on each floor. Short straight lines/economic framing. Extra Space 2 nd level with overhang (cheap) Steep Pitch(adds attic space)

Most gracious of all colonials. Style reflects warmth, quaintness, and hospitality of old south. Architectural Features Front Colonnade. Giant Portico Massive with upper and lower balconies. 3 Story Chimney for Bedroom fireplaces. Ornate woodwork and Iron Trim.

Contemporary/Modern. Not a particular Style. Architects Job to please client. Individual Taste. Anything imagined.

Low, long, one story house; Southwest. Low pitched roof. Gables and overhanging eaves. Normally built on slab. Changes Over the Years 1 or 2 car garage. Basement Skylights L-shaped Cathedral Ceilings.

Freedom of Design. Individual Preference. Material-energy efficient and weather resistant. Structural Techniques. Dramatic Effects. Setting-Hillside- Seashore-Cliffs. Openness.

In the next few slides you will get to practice your skills at identifying the different House Styles. You the student are going to be given a picture and decide what style the picture represents.
