Photosynthesis

What do you think of when you hear the word radiation? Light is a form of electromagnetic radiation The difference in types of radiation is that they have different wavelengths Sunlight contains all pigments of visible light In plants, light energy is harvested by pigments that are located in the thylaloid membrane of chloroplasts

Electromagnetic Spectrum

Photosynthesis occurs in 2 stages Light dependent phase 2. Light independent phase

Light Dependent Phase Occurs in the thylakoid Uses water and light Produces ATP, NADPH, and Oxygen http://cnre.vt.edu/dendro/forestbiology/photosynthesis.swf http://www.stolaf.edu/people/giannini/flashanimat/metabolism/photosynthesis.swf http://www.compulink.co.uk/~argus/Dreambio/photosynthesis/photosynthsis%20animation.htm

Light Independent phase Occurs in the stroma Uses ATP, NADPH, and Carbon Dioxide Produces Sugar http://glencoe.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/9834092339/student_view0/chapter39/calvin_cycle.html
