What Does Good Support Look Like ?

What people said…… Good support means different things to different people……..

Good Support I interview and choose my own support I lead my own support I have support to achieve my goals I have flexible support I am supported to take risks I am supported to understand information I am supported to feel and be more confident I am supported to take part in my local community I am supported to have relationships with my family and friends

I am Happy

Transforming Care I Statements A high quality service means that people with learning disabilities or autism and behaviour which challenges will be able to say: 1. I am safe; 2. I am treated with compassion, dignity and respect; 3. I am involved in decisions about my care; 4. I am protected from avoidable harm, but also have my own freedom to take risks; 5. I am helped to keep in touch with my family and friends; 6. Those around me and looking after me are well supported; 7. I am supported to make choices in my daily life; 8. I get the right treatment and medication for my condition; 9. I get good quality general healthcare; 10. I am supported to live safely in the community; 11. Where I have additional care needs, I get the support I need in the most appropriate setting; 12. My care is regularly reviewed to see if I should be moving on.

Bad Support…… Going to bed early when I want to stay up late Leaving a party at 10 o'clock, when I want to stay until midnight Keep changing my support Being supported by people who don’t know me Having no opportunities Having no information

What helps when planning good support ?

The Principles of the Mental Capacity Act I have the right to make my own decision It doesn’t matter if I lack capacity or not I must be supported to make my own decisions Supported decision making before best interest meetings.

Taking Risks……… It is good to take risks If risk is planned it is good If staff are supported to take risks they will

The 5 ways to wellbeing

Working together…… Building confidence through Self-advocacy and group advocacy

Not being in control of your life can lead to wider health problems – physical and emotional We have some good ideas…….
