June 2010 What has changed in 2010 A butterfly kick is permitted during the first arm stroke after the start and turn in breaststroke - as in FINA. Breaststroke kick is allowed in Butterfly. The statement in SNC SW 8.3 Breaststroke kicking movement is not permitted has been removed from IPC 3.5.3, therefore it is allowed. Breaststroke kick is allowed in Butterfly. June 2010 What has changed in 2010 Shoulders don't have to be in line with the normal water surface in butterfly, the same as FINA. Toes don't have to be under the water in a backstroke start, the same as FINA. Wrapping round the ends of the pool, by stroke judges is dismissed; the technical officials are covering 50m alongside the pool, the same as FINA officials. 6

June 2010 What has changed in 2010 There are a few exceptions dismissed: •V – the A exception code satisfies the need of an assistance •Z – collection of medical information does not fall under the jurisdiction of the classifiers. It is the NPCs responsibility that the athletes participating in a competition are fit to compete and any necessary treatment due to their medical condition is provided by the NPC. •10, 11 exception - 12 covers leg drag or show intent to kick 7

June 2010 What has changed The exceptions will be marked on the start list at major IPC Swimming Championships – there will be no need to do this manually. There are no technical advisers appointed anymore, the classifiers will be connected from the stands if classification related advice is needed. 9

June 2010 What has changed IPC Swimming is following FINA regulations on swimsuits – the technical officials can DQ an athlete that does not adhere to these regulations. –Any swimsuit modification(s) have to be approved by IPC Swimming TO (the swimmer needs to present him/herself in the suit in person) –The STC will monitor how FINA is dealing with suit-checking and further updates can be expected before the World Championships. 10

The classification and technical protest procedures are clearly separated in the rulebook. The LOC is responsible for the warm-up control. The TD is responsible to ensure the LOC is aware of the warm-up protocol. 11

Director (TD/ATD) full slate of senior officials (10) and as many classifiers as required.
