The Truth will Set You Free JOHN 8:12-36

Light invades darkness

The Light of the world (kosmos) the orderly arrangement all that is human as opposed to all that is divine the changing, passing, transient life that we live the wealth and enjoyments of man (including sin)

1 John 2:15-17 (The Message) Don't love the world's ways 1 John 2:15-17 (The Message) Don't love the world's ways. Don't love the world's goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity.

“Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

If you hold to my teaching… being consistent and remaining obeying you truly are a disciple you will know the truth

The revelation or divine expression of Jesus. The truth (aletheia): The revelation or divine expression of Jesus. Jesus calls himself the Truth; the incarnation of divine truth. “Truth” is the gospel—the good news that Jesus saves from sin and death.

If you hold to my teaching… you will experientially “know the truth,” and “by the truth be made spiritually free.”

“I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.” Vs. 34 “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.” Present progressive tense Sin can be defined: to transgress or step across a boundary or limit to miss the mark Causes separation from God

“I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.” Vs. 34 “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.” Present progressive tense Sin can be defined: 1 John 3:4 Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God. James 4:17 Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.

Ecclesiastes 8:8 (NIV) No man has power over the wind to contain it; so no one has power over the day of his death. As no one is discharged in time of war, so wickedness will not release those who practice it.

Romans 6:15-18 (NIV) 15 What then Romans 6:15-18 (NIV) 15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means! 16 Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey —whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?

Romans 6:15-18 (NIV) 17 But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance.18 You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

Removes the separation caused by sin (Justification) The Gospel (the Truth) Removes the separation caused by sin (Justification) Removing the power of sin (Sanctification) Both are concerned with the human condition- sin

Freedom

Romans 8:1-11 (NLT) So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. 2 And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death… 3 …God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins…

Romans 8:1-11 (NLT) 5 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. 6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace…

Romans 8:1-11 (NLT) 9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature Romans 8:1-11 (NLT) 9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you… 11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

Freedom
