What drives Ministry of Social Development Our vision - We help New Zealanders to help themselves to be safe, strong and independent. Ministry of Social Development’s role is developing and delivering effective and efficient client-centred services Developing an integrated actuarial providing current and long-term social policy advice.

The numbers are people too! 24 Feb 17 - National JSS - 67,354 JS HCID - 56,234 (exempt work) SPS - 63,322 SLP - 93,078 Youth - 3,138 Other - 9,002 Total - 288,990

Health and Disability Population 34% of people on JS – H&D have a mental health condition. Next largest group are those with musclo-sketal conditions. It is important to note that 97% of the overall growth in JS-HCID/ SLP client numbers over the last 10 years are people who have a mental health condition. 70% of JS-HCID & SLP clients are aged over 40 years.
