About the Authors Anne Bradstreet: Edward Taylor: Was essentially the first notable American poet, as a Puritan this achievement was remarkable Her poetry focused primarily on the realities of her likes – her husband, eight children, and her house. Edward Taylor: Was one of colonial America’s most inventive poets. Came to America in 1668 to escape religious persecution He wrote his poetry to glorify God and his poems served as a form of worship
