Agenda for today Working on letters In-text citations Plagiarism All components of letter present (correctly formatted, at least three body paragraphs Turning in letters using turnitin Writing introductory emails and sending them to the teacher Final exam review IB ATL: Research Success criterion: Producing text

When to use in-text citations Big rule: whatever information does not come from you. You quote an article: Like Jones claims in his CNN article, “Such laws would help incentivise more young people to work” (Jones). You summarize an article or a part of an article: Jones claims that laws like the ones proposed by the state legislature would make young people want to work (Jones). You need these every time or it will be considered plagiarism, and you will receive a 0 on your project.

2. Plagiarism “The legislation, titled the American Health Care Act, now moves to the Senate, where it will likely change a lot when or if it lands on President Trump's desk. But it's already possible to identify who will get helped and who will get hurt by the bill.” Tami Luhby, CNN News

Examples of plagiarism “The legislation, titled the American Health Care Act, is now going on to the Senate, where it will likely change a lot when or if it lands on President Trump's desk. But it's already possible to identify who will get helped and who will get hurt by the bill.” Tami Luhby, CNN News

Not plagiarism We can know already who the new republican health care bill will help and hurt, even though it will change between now and when it is put into effect (Luhby).

Dear Governor Walker, My name is _____, and for my freshman English class, we are writing letters to elected officials about social justice issues. I chose to write about homeless veterans, because I have seen homeless veterans in my own community. I think that the state and federal government should provide better access to healthcare for homeless veterans because 1) it would reduce the number of veterans who commit suicide, 2) it would give them opportunities to find a sense of community, and 3) it is the right thing to do for those who served. Attached is my letter concerning this issue. Thank you for your consideration of my perspective. Best Regards, [type name here]

10 min: type email and send it to me 10 min: type email and send it to me...yes, even though it is addressed to someone else Dear Governor Walker, My name is _____, and for my freshman English class, we are writing letters to elected officials about social justice issues.
