Installations and Inductions Lt Governor Training Installations and Inductions Leadership Development Committee – June 2015

Installations and Inductions How do I install new club officers? What about the induction of new members? What is the difference between installing and inducting? Installation of the Club officers is an excellent way for the Lt. Governor to participate in a Club gathering and begin to get to know the Club members. It is also a valuable way for the Lt. Governor to impress upon the Club the importance of their Club officers. Installations are to put the leadership positions in place for the Optimist year. The Induction is the introduction and initiation of the New Member(s) to the club.

Installation Event Schedule with incoming President Recognize the importance Make it special Dress the part! Call the new Club President to schedule your visit for the Installation of the new officers and Board. Be sure that the President recognizes the importance of the Installation being done in front of members, spouses, partners, others. This event should be special! Always remember to dress appropriately – as the Lt. Governor, you are representing the District at this important event.

Lt Governor Opening President, incoming officers & Directors Projects and impact on the community Honor and/or Distinguished History of the club Share the excitement! The Lt. Governor should briefly recognize and commend the club officers; identify the impact of the club’s projects on the community; share the significance of the club being Honor/Distinguished by noting the banner patches; recognize the history of the club’s service (banner patches); and share the excitement of who we are as Optimists.

Club Officers & Board of Directors Installation Bring the group to the front for all to see Use the installation process as a tool to describe the duties and responsibilities of the jobs Challenge them to maintain high ideals for their Club Ask the new officers and Board members to stand as a group in front of the membership and guests present as you officially install them. Be sure to look at them as you go through the Installation process. You are challenging them to maintain high ideals for the club!

New Member Induction Ask President to invite you Represent the District Make it special for the new members & sponsors Ask the Club President to tell you when new members are going to be inducted so that you can perform the Induction on behalf of the District. Make it special for the new members and their sponsors!

New Member Pledge Have a simple, legible copy for the new Member to hold and read from Invite all Club Members to stand and reaffirm their pledge as Optimists After you have read the words of Induction, pause and ask all club members to stand with the new member(s) and reaffirm their own pledge as Optimists. This will make it easier for the new member(s) to stand in front of the membership of the club as well as reminding all members of their own pledge when they joined.

Pledge I, __insert name______, do hereby pledge That I will do my best at all times To live by the spirit of the Optimist Creed And I will also give of my time and talents As generously as possible To support the activities of my club My district and Optimist International. Ask all members to raise their right hands as they repeat the Pledge with the inductees. When the Pledge has been repeated by all, they may put their hands down as you continue with the remainder of the Induction. Be sure to shake the hand of the new member(s) as you welcome them. Encourage club members to shake hands and welcome the new member(s) as well.

Installations and Inductions completed You, as the Lt. Governor, have now installed the club officers for the year. You will be inducting new member(s) throughout the year. Enjoy the role that you have as the official representative of your District at each and all of these events!
