Racism- Not in Step with the Gospel

We can’t worry about what the other person is doing We must look inward first We can’t look away and ignore it, if we truly follow Him

Galatians 2:11-14

14 (ESV) But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel… The gospel then isn’t just WHAT; it’s HOW The gospel isn’t just pre-conversion it is post-conversion. It CHANGES our LIVES The gospel orders our steps The gospel is indicative of how we treat OTHERS!

3 Rhetorical Questions: Why are many white people so defensive? “ALL lives matter” “I’ve never owned a slave” “no black person currently alive has been a slave”

3 Rhetorical Questions: Why are many white people so defensive? White people do have systemic ‘privilege’- even if poor When we get defensive the other person’s point of view is lost!

Listen to LEARN and not to REFUTE

3 Rhetorical Questions: Why do we deflect? “What about them?” “What about me?”

3 Rhetorical Questions: Why do we want it to just go away? “I’m color blind” “Continuing to highlight racism is just negativity and causes more division”

“Peace is not simply the absence of conflict, but the existence of justice for all people” - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Luke 10:25-37

Martin Luther King, Jr: “I've Been to the Mountaintop” delivered April 3, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee- “I can see why Jesus used this as the setting for his parable. It's a winding, meandering road... In the days of Jesus it came to be known as the ‘Bloody Pass.’ And you know, it's possible that the priest and the Levite looked over that man on the ground and wondered if the robbers were still around…

Martin Luther King, Jr: “I've Been to the Mountaintop” delivered April 3, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee- Or it's possible that they felt that the man on the ground was merely faking, and he was acting like he had been robbed and hurt in order to seize them over there, lure them there for quick and easy seizure. And so the first question that the priest asked, the first question that the Levite asked was, ‘If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?’”

- What can we do about this? - To love your neighbor as yourself is tied to loving God and is total This love invokes compassion Christians cannot pick and choose who is to be their neighbor or when they are to follow this law - What can we do about this? -

1 Peter 1:18-19 You know that a price was paid to redeem you from following the empty ways handed on to you by your ancestors; it was not paid with things that perish (like silver and gold), but with the precious blood of the Anointed.
