Microscope Using a microscope, I have developed my understanding of the structure and variety of cells and of their functions. SCN 3-13a

Lesson aims... Today we will be: Developing our knowledge of the microscope I can label the parts of a microscope Developing our practical skills I can focus a microscope

How can we see small things? We use a microscope. A microscope uses lens to MAGNIFY objects.

Microscope Licence To get your microscope licence you must: Be able to name the parts of a microscope Be able to set up a microscope Focus an object for someone to see clearly By the end of the lesson you should be able to: - safely set up a microscope - focus an object of someone to see (me or partner) - complete microscope diagram

Always carry a microscope holding the arm Gather Round Eye-piece Optic tube Arm Objective lens Focus control Stage Light Base Always carry a microscope holding the arm

Instructions Collect a microscope, power supply and slide Place the slide on the stage and set in place with clips Make sure the lowest power objective lens is in place Lower the objective lens until just above the slide Slowly bring the objective lens away from the stage First person in your group, try to focus the image... Once you have show your partner/s then reset the focussing knobs

Take another look... What happens if you move the slide to the left? Does it go the same way? Is there anything else unusual about the image? Try to focus the object with a stronger objective lens

Have a look at the different microscope slides Have a look at the different microscope slides. Draw what you see (at least 3 slides)

Once you have all successfully focussed the image label the diagram of the microscope Eye-piece Optic tube Arm Objective lens Focus control Stage Light Base
