Types of Conflict

Conflict Conflict is the dramatic struggle (problem) between two forces in a story. Without conflict, there is no plot.

Types of Conflict Character vs Character Character vs Nature Character vs Society Character vs Self

Character vs. Character This type of external conflict happens between two characters

Character vs. Nature This type of external conflict happens between a character and the elements of nature.

Character vs. Society This type of conflict happens between a character and a group of people. (i.e. community, society, culture, etc.)

Character vs. Self This conflict happens inside of the character. The character struggles to do the right thing. This is the only type of internal conflict.
