Journal #5 Take out your 5 subject notebook. Complete the journal entry in the first section. What do you know about the term “American Dream?” What do you think it might mean? Write or list all the ideas you think or know connect to this concept.

As we watch and listen to Lecrae’s “Welcome to America”, write down conclusions (ideas you infer) drawn about the speaker’s perceptions about life, obligations, and society. List clues to support these perceptions.

Vocab Each group is assigned a word. As a group, define the word, give it’s part of speech, use it properly in a sentence, and give a synonym and antonym. As we share everyone will write all the information shared in there A.N. Free verse – (Batman) Catalogue – (Superman) Possessive pronoun – (Green Lantern) Blythe – (Martian Manhunter) Loafe – (Flash) Abeyance – (Wonderwoman)

Respond to the following questions after you finish your first read of both poems. 1. How does the speaker in “I Hear America Singing” announce that he is about to present a list? 2. Look back at the description of the setting in the opening paragraph. Is it appropriate that the dead are buried at Rainy Mountain? Cite strong evidence to support your answer. How is the legend about the Devil’s Tower important to the setting of the story? What emotions does the narrator most associate with the memory of his grandmother? Support your answer with textual evidence.
