At age 15 he was split from his mother and sister, who he had never seen during the time he spent at the Concentration Camp. Sticking by his father’s kept them from being separated, but then his father couldn’t handle the conditions, so he ended up passing away, leaving Elie alone.

He later became comfortable enough and wrote about his life’s events in his book “Night”, first written in Yiddish in 1955, then later translated to English in 1960.

Fun Facts 1956 1963 1986 2007 In 1956, he got hit by a taxi cab in New York city, and was unable to walk, so he had to stay in a wheelchair. In 1963, Wiesel became an official United States Citizen. He later received a Noble Peace Prize for his book “La Nuit” (Night) in 1986. On February 1, 2007, Elie was attacked by a young denier of the Holocaust.
