What, Why, &How Jewish Concentration Camp- Jewish Auschwitz Holocaust Split from family Taken to camp Cattle like transportation Elie was Jewish which led him to end up in the Concentration Camp in Auschwitz, Poland with 6 million other Jews, which Hitler demanded for all Jewish people during the Holocaust. At age 15 he was split from his mother and sister, who he had never seen during the time he spent at the Concentration Camp. Sticking by his father’s kept them from being separated, but then his father couldn’t handle the conditions, so he ended up passing away, leaving Elie alone.

Before Camp Languages Yiddish Hungarian Romanian German Childhood Religion Family Studies Community God During Elie’s childhood, his parents set an example for their family’s life to revolve around religion, family, studying, community, and god. He was taught four languages, but only spoke Yiddish at home, and Hungarian, Romanian, and German outside.

After Camp French Orphanage Reunited with two sisters Journalism School in France Night After the Holocaust, since his father died and he was on his own, Elie spent a couple of years at a French Orphanage, where he was then reunited with two of his sisters. Elie was still shocked and hurt by the experience, he didn't want to open up about it just yet. He later went to France, and completed a secondary school, and became interested in journalism. He later became comfortable enough and wrote about his life’s events in his book “Night”, first written in Yiddish in 1955, then later translated to English in 1960.

Fun Facts 1956 1963 1986 2007 In 1956, he got hit by a taxi cab in New York city, and was unable to walk, so he had to stay in a wheelchair. In 1963, Wiesel became an official United States Citizen. He later received a Noble Peace Prize for his book “La Nuit” (Night) in 1986. On February 1, 2007, Elie was attacked by a young denier of the Holocaust.
