Corporate & Social responsibility All: Understand what is corporate and social responsibility Most: Explain how businesses can be corporate and socially responsible

Corporate Social Responsibility Corporate social responsibility: The continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families (whanau) as well as the local community (iwi) at large The awareness the business has of the impact on the community and the environment. Examples of CSR – community workdays, consultation with the community on changes, minimising pollution Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Citizenship Citizenship: The idea that businesses are moral upstanding organisations that act correctly and set examples for the rest of society These two concepts (CSR & Citizenship) are strongly interconnected Corporate Philanthropy – the organisation gives money or goods to charity or worthy causes Corporate Citizenship

Corporate Social Responsibilty (CSR) If a company adopts a CSR approach they will be a good corporate citizen. however To be a CSR company is not enforced by law and it raises the costs. But becoming an established company with CSR credentials is a way of obtaining a USP and being ahead of the competition Corporate Social Responsibilty (CSR)

Publicity and Staff Morale CSR approaches by businesses can be rewarded through positive publicity. Staff Morale can also increase with the idea that the organisations work and their own goes towards benefitting the community. Philanthropic gift also raise the profile and morale Social Sustainability – maintains the health & well-being of the community and the employees. Publicity and Staff Morale

Maori Business Concept : Putake The reason for being. Considering social, cultural, environmental and economic sustainability.
