Narrative Writing Telling a Story

There are three main types of writing. Narrative tells a story. Expository explains something to the reader. Persuasive tries to convince the reader to do something or believe something.

Personal narrative writing is when the story being told is about the writer himself.

What should you keep in mind when writing a personal narrative? A story needs a beginning, middle, and end. Descriptive writing is more interesting than writing with little detail. Explain to the reader why the event is important to you. Name other characters and places. Use quotations properly (quotation marks, commas, indentation).

How do I get started? Remember. Use a memory that is very vivid and you could describe easily. Web, draw, or list all of the people, places, ideas, events associated with the memory. Evaluate: Do you have enough material to write a 3-4 paragraph essay? If not start again.
