Acts 27:10-26 & 28:1-10 Philippi Ephesus Jerusalem Caesarea Malta

Introduction

Take My Advice (Acts 27:9-11) …So Paul warned them, Ac 27:10 “Men, I can see that our voyage is going to be disastrous and bring great loss to ship and cargo, and to our own lives also.” Ac 27:11 But the centurion, instead of listening to what Paul said, followed the advice of the pilot and of the owner of the ship… (Acts 27:9b-11) Take My Advice (Acts 27:9-11)

Before very long, a wind of hurricane force, called the “northeaster,” swept down from the island. Ac 27:15 The ship was caught by the storm and could not head into the wind; so we gave way to it and were driven along. Ac 27:16 As we passed to the lee of a small island called Cauda, we were hardly able to make the lifeboat secure…(Acts 27:14-16) All Hope is Gone!

We took such a violent battering from the storm that the next day they began to throw the cargo overboard. Ac 27:19 On the third day, they threw the ship’s tackle overboard with their own hands…(Acts 27:18-19) All Hope is Gone! When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved…(Acts 27:20)

But now I urge you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost; only the ship will be destroyed. Ac 27:23 Last night an angel of the God whose I am and whom I serve stood beside me Ac 27:24 and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.’ Ac 27:25 So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me. Be Courageous – verse 22. Be Fearless – verse 24. Be Courageous – verse 25.

Key Point!! God is Sovereign

Honoured They honored us in many ways and when we were ready to sail, they furnished us with the supplies we needed…(Acts 28:10)

(1) Christian workers went to places where no one else would go…they even lived among these people. (2) Christian evangelists handed over leadership of the churches to locals very soon and...thus empowered the people. (3) Christianity is a “cheap” religion…By that the author meant that it did not cost the people a lot in order to get the services of a Christian minister.

Agents of Hope!
